About

Hi! I'm Kate...

I fell in love with gardening during lockdown, similar to a lot of people – I discovered a newfound appreciation for the outdoor space we had.

I started to grow some vegetables from seed (pumpkins…wow they can get BIG!) and quickly decided that we needed a veg patch.

As well as the pumpkins, I grew tomatoes, potatoes, sprouts and some lettuce.  I started devouring Gardener’s World on a regular basis and towards the end of the year, I developed a flower border with some nice perennials.  Given it was late on in the year, the focus really was on evergreen so that we’d have some winter interest.

I didn’t set out to become flower-obsessed! It all started with a few seed packets but something just clicked.

There was something different about flowers. The colours, the movement, the way they made even an ordinary day feel a bit softer, a bit more magical. I’d sow a tray of seeds and check on them every two minutes! The first bunch I cut for the house was like nothing else.

Things picked up pace really quickly after that, book after book on cut flowers were read cover to cover (and sometimes back again!) seeds were ordered (new addiction immediately began) and cut flower patches were created.

Since then, growing flowers has become part of my rhythm. It’s not perfect—there are flopped seedlings and slug disasters — but it’s real. And the feeling of watching something bloom that you've grown from seed is pure joy.

If you’re here, I’m guessing you might feel the same. Maybe you’re dreaming of a garden filled with colour, or wondering where to even begin. Maybe you’re staring at seed packets wondering if it’s too late, or too hard, or just too much. I’ve been there.

I grow organically, with a gentle focus on the bees and other pollinators. I share what I’ve learned (and what I’ve messed up). And my hope is that this little corner of the internet helps you feel calm, inspired, and capable—because growing flowers doesn’t have to be complicated, it just has to feel good.

Welcome to Homegrown Blooms!
